One mom's controversial move has raised a lot of eyebrows.
TikToker Shay Nanigans caused quite an uproar after claiming that she charged another mother $15 to pay for the expenses racked up during their daughters' playdate—but it was all a bit.
"So, recently my daughter had a friend over," Shay said in a video shared to her TikTok June 12, "and I asked her mom for money, and this is how it went."
Shay went on to share screenshots of their alleged texts, which show her requesting a Venmo totaling $15 because she "can't keep doing these playdates if it's so expensive."
"This way we can do this more often without a monetary obligation on just one party," Shay told the other mom. "Right? Makes sense."
And while the mother's only response was to ask for a list of the "supplies," the influencer shared that she eventually did get sent the money.
So, what were the expenses? Shay charged $1 each for chalk, applesauce, fruit, yogurt and "sat on couch wear and tear," as well as $3 for the child's three trips to her bathroom. She also tacked on $5 for the cost of her daughter's friend breaking an "lol doll."
Naturally, not everyone was in agreement on the charges.
"$1 for sitting on the couch is outrageous," one user commented on the video, while another wrote, "Just don't do playdates if it's not in your budget."
Others couldn't help but find the humor in the situation, with one user quipping, "breathed air - $3."
And more than a few social media sleuths were convinced the whole clip was a joke, with one user writing, "This has got to be a parody."
After the video went viral, Shay admitted that those who assumed she wasn't serious had the right idea, saying her take was meant to be "rage bait" and she made a fake account for the other mom in order to really sell it.
"Rage bait is not a joke, a joke is meant to make you laugh," Shay explained in a June 20 TikTok. "Rage bait is more filed under fake news. It's there for engagement."
Of course, her admission only fueled more outrage from some.
"I feel bamboozled," one user commented, while another wrote, "Me when I mess up so I act like it was all a joke."
Others were a bit more forgiving, expressing how impressed they were with her ability to be convincing.
"Ok…. You win," one fan confessed. "I am absolutely baffled."
